This is done with a gun and studs, which are obtained from a sterile blister pack. The studs must be spun each day and the ear around the stud cleaned with antiseptic till the area is all healed. This may take 4 – 6 weeks. Household disinfectants are not broad spectrum germ kills, and are inappropriate for this purpose. If you don’t have any Ear Care product, methylated spirits is board spectrum and will help dry up the hole. Do not remove the studs for six weeks. Keep the area as dry as possible, so do not go swimming till the six weeks is finished. Apply the antiseptic after hair washing as this will dry up any water that may have dampened the hole. Remember warmth and damp is the perfect breeding ground for bacteria.

When you put in your preferred earing, after a while you may experience heat, swelling or irritation. Some people can only wear 18ct gold. Others can manage about eight hours before their ears ache. If this is you, and you want to wear a particular fake earing at night you can wear your piercing stud during the day or your 18ct gold earing if you are lucky enough to have one.

Now you have pierced ears you are less likely to have your earings fall off, so now you can wear real jewels. There are some drawbacks though. Take care with loops and big earings. I see some ears that are ripped through and it does not heal nicely. Babies will grab for earings and pull. When someone puts their arm around your neck, their thumb can catch in the loop.
